Marion Music Hall   Marion is a delightful residential town, felt by Marion residents to have rare natural beauty and charm. The small town character, blended with the flavor and benefits of a seacoast community with lovely residential neighborhoods and

modern conveniences, makes Marion an ideal town for year round living. Marion's roots go back to 1679, when the town was first settled as a village known as Sippican, a part of Rochester. Rochester, Mattapoisett and Sippican, widely separate villages under the domain of Rochester, gradually developed different interests and economies. These factors led to independence for Sippican, which was renamed Marion in honor of the Revolutionary War hero, Francis Marion, in 1852. Today Marion has a stable year round population with a moderate summertime increase.

Marion is one of a number of communities that are connected by water, all of which are located in Buzzards Bay. Marion is a town which captures the essence and heart of New England. The streets in the village section of Marion are lined with houses that are reminiscent of a time long since past. The New England charm of tree lined Marion streets and white picket fences is evident throughout the village. There is still a General Store in the center of Marion and the Post Office is directly across the street. Marion is also home to Tabor Academy, a well-known preparatory school. The picture perfect campus spreads out across the center of the town. Marion's harbor is listed on the charts as Sippican Harbor. It is one of the prettiest harbors in Buzzards Bay. In the summer the harbor is filled with boats of every size. Buzzards Bay is a boater's paradise. It is known for its southwest winds that kick up a blow almost every afternoon. Any fog that may appear in the morning usually burns off to a haze, or clears in the afternoon.

With just about 5,000 residents in a 14.28 square-mile radius, the Marion real estate market is tight. The median cost of a Marion single-family home is around $325,000, according to the Marion's assessors.
